Industrial Fasteners
Industrial fasteners create mechanical joints throughout machinery, equipment, structures, enclosures, assemblies, and manufacturing systems. Their compatibility depends on more than diameter alone: thread form, pitch, strength, material, geometry, finish, loading, and installation conditions all influence selection.
Common Fastener Types
Fasteners are often grouped by how they create or support a joint. The same application may use several fastener types together, such as a bolt, nut, and washer assembly.
Bolts
Bolts are externally threaded fasteners typically used with a mating nut or threaded component. Head style, shank length, thread length, diameter, grade, and material determine suitability for a joint.
Screws
Screws engage internal threads or form threads directly in the mating material. Machine screws, cap screws, self-tapping screws, and specialty screws support a wide range of equipment assemblies.
Nuts
Nuts provide an internally threaded mating component for bolts and threaded rods. Locking method, thread type, material, dimensions, and load requirements affect selection.
Washers
Washers distribute loads, protect surfaces, provide spacing, support locking systems, or compensate for irregular surfaces depending on their design.
Thread compatibility is fundamental.
A bolt and nut must share compatible thread geometry. Diameter alone does not establish interchangeability. Thread pitch, profile, direction, fit, and dimensional system must also match.
Substitutions should be evaluated against the actual thread specification rather than appearance.
Materials + Finishes
Fastener material affects strength, corrosion resistance, temperature capability, weight, conductivity, and compatibility with the materials being joined.
Carbon + Alloy Steel
Common choices for general machinery and structural applications where strength, availability, and cost are major considerations.
Stainless Steel
Used where corrosion resistance, cleanliness, or exposure to moisture and certain process environments is important.
Aluminum
Lightweight fasteners may be selected for assemblies where reduced mass and corrosion resistance are more important than maximum strength.
Brass
Brass fasteners may be used for electrical, decorative, corrosion-resistant, or low-sparking applications.
Protective Plating
Zinc and other coatings can improve corrosion resistance, appearance, lubrication behavior, or surface protection.
Specialty Materials
High-temperature alloys, polymers, titanium, and other materials may be required for specialized operating environments.
